About
The Van Anda Improvement District was incorporated by Letters Patent in November of 1942 (as Vananda Waterworks) and is responsible for providing waterworks and fire protection to the properties within the district boundaries. It became Van Anda Improvement District in 1989.
Improvement districts are:
- local authorities that provide specific services to landowners who have requested and pay for those services.
- incorporated public local bodies governed by a board of elected trustees
- for provision of services such as water and fire protection services for the benefit of landowners within their boundary
- not the same as municipalities or regional districts, as improvement districts may only provide the services authorized in their letters patent.
The Van Anda Improvement District is governed by the Province of British Columbia. Learn more about Improvement Districts at the Province of BC website

Letters Patent
Letters patent are a legal document created by the B.C. government. Incorporating letters patent establish the framework by which a municipality or regional district is created.

Note that Boundaries are now defined in an attachment which includes a map, rather than in the written description in this document.
