Summary of the Water Conservation Bylaw

The following prohibitions are in force at all times of the year:

  • No person shall damage or allow the deterioration of any appliance so as to result in an increase in water use.
  • No person shall waste water by using more water than is required to provide a service, produce a product, or complete a task, including but not limited to allowing a tap or hose to run water unnecessarily and over-watering plants or lawns.
  • No person shall apply water intended for irrigation to an impervious surface such as a street, parking lot, sidewalk, or driveway.

Effective Dates of Stages and Restrictions

  • Stage 1 is in effect from May 15 to Jun 30 unless Stage 2 or 3 are in effect.
  • Stage 2 is in effect from Jul 1 to Sep 30 unless Stage 3 is in effect.
  • The board of trustees may change these dates or stages at any time of the year for any period of time.

SCHEDULE “A” – Water Restriction Stages

The following conditions apply to all stages:

  • Watering is not allowed during the heat of the day (usually 10-5).
  • No person shall use a water hose unless it is equipped with an automatic shut off nozzle.
  • Hand watering is to be done by a handheld container, or a handheld hose equipped with a spring-loaded automatic shut-off nozzle.
  • Washing of vehicles or boats, or exterior windows and building surfaces, allowed only with a hand-held container or spring-loaded shut off nozzle.
  • Use of micro-irrigation or drip irrigation systems to water trees, shrubs, flowers, and vegetables is allowed on any day, at any time, as required.

Stage 1 water restrictions will come into effect May 15 of every year and the following conditions apply:

  • Odd numbered houses may water on odd numbered days. Even numbered houses may water on even numbered days.
  • Lawn watering is allowed once per week.
  • Filling or adding water to a swimming pool, hot tub, garden pond, or decorative fountain allowed only between noon and 4 pm.

Stage 2 water restrictions are in effect July 1st to September 30th with the following conditions applying:

  • Odd numbered houses may water on odd numbered days. Even numbered houses may water on even numbered days.
  • Lawn watering restricted to a maximum of one hour, once a week.
  • Filling or adding water to a swimming pool, hot tub, garden pond, or decorative fountain allowed only between noon and 4 pm.
  • Washing of sidewalks, driveways, and parking lots allowed only when applying a product, preparing a surface for paving or repainting, or to comply with health and safety regulations.

If Stage 3 restrictions are declared, the following conditions apply:

  • Hand watering of trees, shrubs, flowers, and vegetables is allowed for a daily maximum of one hour.

The following are NOT ALLOWED:

  • Watering a lawn.
  • Washing a vehicle, RV, or boat, except for safety (windows, lights, and licenses only).
  • Filling or adding water to a swimming pool, hot tub, garden pond, or decorative fountain.
  • Washing any outdoor surface including any sidewalk, walkway, driveway, patio, deck, or window.
