Fire Restrictions Update
Seasonal fire restrictions have now been lifted. Residents may resume normal outdoor burning activities where permitted under Improvement District bylaws. As always, please continue to use caution and follow safe burning practices to help protect the community.
Condolences
We extend sincere condolences to the family, friends, and fellow firefighters mourning the loss of Gillies Bay firefighter and longtime resident Darren Zant. His service, kindness, and dedication to public safety were well known across the Island. Darren was not only an excellent firefighter but also one of the sweetest and kindest people many of us have ever met. His passing is felt deeply throughout the community.
Meter Project Update
Community feedback on the meter project continues to be positive, and the District appreciates the supportive dialogue from residents as the system moves toward full implementation. Installation work is now nearly complete, and all meters are expected to be fully online by the end of October. Meter data will be used for informational purposes only until the transition to metered billing in 2028. Ongoing engagement has helped refine communication, improve clarity, and support a smooth and well‑understood rollout of the new system.
Meter Project Public Information Meeting
A public information meeting on project updates including prospective water rates and billing cycles for the upcoming metered system will be held at the Legion on Thursday, November 26 at 6:30 pm. All residents are encouraged to attend, ask questions, and learn more about how the transition to metered billing will be structured.
Fire Department Budget
The annual fire budget has been approved with an increase of less than 1 percent. This reflects careful financial planning and continued commitment to maintaining essential fire protection services while minimizing impacts on taxpayers.
